For the Sake of Their Son

For the Sake of Their Son (The Alpha Brotherhood #5)(44)
Author: Catherine Mann

She backed up, laughing. “Catch me if you want it now.”

She was light on her feet, and he still enjoyed the thrill of the chase when it came to his wife. Jogging a few yards before he caught her, Elliot swept her up into his arms and carried her behind a sand dune where he could kiss her properly as he’d been aching to do all day. Except his house was so full of friends and family.

With the waves crashing and sea grass rustling, Elliot kissed her as he’d done thousands of times and looked forward to doing thousands more until they drew their last breath. God, he loved this woman.

Slowly, he lowered her feet to the ground, and she molded her body to his. If there wasn’t a party going on a few yards away, he would have taken this a lot further. Later, he promised himself, later he would bring her out to a cabana and make love to her with the sound of the ocean to serenade them—his studies in English and creative writing were making him downright poetic these days.

For now though, he had a mission. He caressed up her arm until he found her hand. With quick reflexes honed on the racetrack, he filched the mystery toy from her fingers. Although he had to admit, she didn’t put up much of a fight.

He slid his hand back around, opened his fist and found…a baby toy. Specifically, a fuzzy yellow rabbit. “You’re—”

“Pregnant,” she finished the sentence with a shining smile. “Four weeks. I only just found out for sure.”

They’d been trying for six months, and now their dream to give Eli a brother or a sister was coming true. He hugged her, lifting her feet off the ground and spinning her around.

Once her feet settled on the sand again, she said, “When we were kids, we dreamed of fairy tales. How funny that we didn’t start believing them until we became adults.”

His palm slid over her stomach. “Real life with you and our family beats any fairy tale, hands down.”
