“I love you more.” He stated it simply and without hesitation.

She reached out a tentative hand and stroked his hair, his cheek. “I would never ask you to give up something that makes you so happy.”

“Then don’t make me give up you.”

Those perfect words sent a shiver of delight through her. “It’s not too late, Toby. I couldn’t stop loving you that easily. Even though I did try.

“You’ve shown me time and time again you’re not the daredevil adrenaline junkie I thought you were. I trust you to not take foolish risks. And I don’t want you to give up driving until you’re ready to quit.

“Yes. Yes, Toby Haynes, I’ll marry you.”

She bent and gently pressed her lips to his. He rose swiftly, crushing her into his arms, sweeping her off her feet and deepening the kiss.

She wound her arms around his neck and smiled against his mouth. If anyone had told her a year ago that her knight in shining armor would ride in a race car instead of on a white stallion, she’d have told them to have their heads examined.

But this time she was more than happy to be wrong.
