I made my way over to the back door and headed out to the back porch. I sat down and inhaled a deep breath of fresh air and then released it. I closed my eyes and saw Azurdee’s beautiful caramel eyes looking into mine as I made love to her.

“How did I get so damn lucky?” I whispered as I smiled and shook my head. I pulled out my cell phone and started a text message to my mother.

Me: She said yes.

Mom: I never had a doubt in my mind.

I shook my head. I was two fucking steps away from my man card being revoked.

Mom: I got up to get a drink and saw your text come through. Go back to sleep son. Hug and kiss that beautiful future daughter-in-law of mine. Sleep well and call me tomorrow. I want to hear all about when you asked her to marry you.

Me: Okay, will do, Mom. Night. I love you, Mom.

Mom: I love you too, Michael.

I finished my water and stood up. I looked out into the dark pasture and smiled. I had no idea where the future would take Azurdee and me, but I knew one thing. I loved her and I would go to the ends of the earth for her.

I made my way back up to the bedroom and when I walked in Azurdee was standing at the window looking out into the night. She was completely naked and the sight of her caused my knees to wobble.

She took in a breath and slowly let it out. “Will you miss it? Will you miss the Marines and the CIA. I worry you will miss the…” She shook her head and continued speaking. “The thrill of your job? That’s the only word I can think of.”

I turned her body around and placed my hands on both sides of her face.

My eyes moved across her beautiful face. “Azurdee, I’ve changed. You changed me and it was for the better. What I want from life now is time with you. I want to start a cattle company, I want to build up the ranch to where I’m doing guided hunts like my father, and I want you to be a major part in all of that. I’m not looking back. I’m only looking forward to a peaceful quiet life with the woman I love.”

Her eyes filled with tears and she said, “So no more buildings blowing up and people trying to kill you?”

I slowly shook my head. “No more, baby. I have officially turned in my man card and give my entire life to you.”

She laughed and said, “No! Don’t turn in your man card. I kind of like that side of you.”

I raised my eyebrow at her. “What side?”

She bit down on her lower lip and her eyes filled with passion. “The side that takes control. I love when you make love to me but when…when you…” She looked down and I saw her cheeks flush.
