“Good.”

Yes, it definitely would be.

“Oh, wait, one more thing,” Kennedy said, marching down the hall toward him.

Greyson wondered, from the look on her face, whether he was in trouble now. Stopping in his tracks, he watched her. The determination on her face made him just a little nervous.

“I need a favor.”

And now he had reason to believe that maybe he should be nervous.

Very, very nervous.

SAWYER WAS SITTING in his office pretending to be busy. It wasn’t working. The only thing he could think about was seeing Kennedy, spending time with her. He was planning to take her out, relax a little before the big day tomorrow, and he couldn’t seem to focus on anything else.

A knock on his office door had Sawyer glancing up.

“Hey,” Greyson greeted when he stepped into Sawyer’s office, sounding oddly happy for a guy who’d been ignoring him all fucking week.

Expecting a confrontation, Sawyer got to his feet and maneuvered around his desk. “Hey. What’s up?”

“Got a minute?”

“I do now.”

“I wanted to stop in, see how you’re doin’,” Greyson said casually.

Sawyer stared at him, wondering just who the hell had taken over Greyson’s body. The guy was acting as though they hadn’t been ready to tear one another to pieces the last time they saw one another. Not to mention, he seemed oblivious to the fact that Sawyer had been trying to get in touch with him for the better part of the week.

Sawyer slowly moved back, perching on the edge of his desk, watching Greyson carefully as he said, “Help me out here, man. What the hell is goin’ on? You’ve ignored me all week long and now you walk in here like . . . Shit, I don’t know what you’re doin’.”

“I had to get some things worked out,” Greyson said simply. “I figured I’d stop by, let you know I took care of it.”

“It?”

“Yeah. I might’ve overreacted a little. To, you know, things. But I managed to resolve the issues.”

“That so?”

“Yes. And . . . well, I had an apology to make.”

“To who?”

“Your girl,” Greyson said, sounding oddly calm. “She’s somethin’ else, man.”

Sawyer didn’t say anything, although he agreed wholeheartedly.

“So, I’m here to apologize to you, too. I said some things I shouldn’t have. It took me a little while, but I realized I was bein’ an asshole. A selfish asshole at that. Believe it or not, I do want you guys to be happy. Things just got a little out of hand.”

Sawyer’s jaw was practically dragging on the ground and he was anxiously waiting for the punch line. What the fuck was going on?

Greyson thrust his hand through his hair, meeting Sawyer’s gaze. “And yes, I accept your apology, too.”

Sawyer laughed, still confused. It took a minute for him to remember that he had left Greyson a long voice mail, first chewing his ass out for not answering and then offering an apology.

“So, you listened to my message? We’re good?” Sawyer asked. He felt a little off-kilter in the situation. Like this was some sort of dream. Things were coming together in a way he wasn’t used to. What happened to the drama? Wasn’t that the way it worked? It always had in the past, so this new version of events was a little creepy.

“That’s really all I had to say,” Greyson said, pulling Sawyer from his thoughts.

“Yeah, okay.” Sawyer stood up, holding out his hand to Greyson. “Now I’ve got a favor to ask.”

“Lord have mercy. You too?”

SAWYER ARRIVED AT Kennedy’s house at seven o’clock rather than eight as he’d promised. He had left the resort early and hadn’t had anything else on his agenda, so he figured what the hell. When he pulled into her driveway, he noticed her car was there so he pulled in behind her and made his way to the door.

Finding the front door locked, he knocked and hit the doorbell, stepping back out of the way. A second later, the door opened and he took her in from head to toe.

“Hey,” she greeted softly when he met her eyes.

“Hey back,” he said, moving toward her.

Kennedy’s gray eyes widened, a smile forming on her perfect lips as he approached. He stalked her backward until they were both inside the house and then he closed the door behind him, spinning her so that her back was to the door.

“I missed you,” he said roughly, pressing his lips to hers.

“I missed you, too.”

“You’d think that was the first time I heard you say that,” he told her, sliding his hands down her sides and then lower so he could cup her ass.
