He looked at me with a glint in his eyes. I assumed it was pain but it also looked like he was trying to hold in laughter. “I just stood there in the door watching as she groaned. Until finally they noticed me. She jumped up and ran to me. Begged me to forgive her. She told me that it was only anal sex so it didn’t count. It wasn’t real intercourse. She blamed me for letting Mark do that to her.” He closed his eyes. “I was confused and heartbroken but I forgave her. I should have just ended it then and there. But I didn’t know what to think or do. I loved her so much.”

“I’m sorry,” I whispered again.

“And then we went to college and tried to pretend that everything was normal. And for the most part it was. We were still best friends, we still laughed. I still loved her more than life itself. But she just kept wanting to push the envelope.”

“Sexually?” I whispered at him.

“Yes.” He laughed. “No one would believe that it would be a man who was hesitant to try things. But at that time, I was a boy and not a man and I felt uncomfortable with many of the things that she asked.”

“Oh?” The image he was painting of Angelica was completely unexpected. “What did your parents say?”

He laughed and looked at me incredulously. “I’ve never told anyone else any of this stuff, Sarah. It’s not something you bring up in casual conversation.”

“Oh ok.” I bit my lip and was about to say something else but he continued talking.

“Then Angelica met Genny in a women’s history class and they hit it off. And she confided in me that she was attracted to Genny. I asked her what she meant and she said that she wanted to see what it was like to be with a woman. I was crushed. I thought that meant that I didn’t satisfy her and that she didn’t love me. So she suggested we have a threesome.”

“Wow.”

He laughed. “And again, that wasn’t something that I really wanted but I said yes. I didn’t want her to go off and do it without me. Now I realize that she was just trying to find herself and what she was doing was normal for a girl her age, she was finding and experimenting with her sexuality but I thought it was all about what I couldn’t provide her. So if you ever want to have a threesome, let me know.” He paused and grinned and me and then continued. “So then she brought Genny over to my apartment one evening and she was everything Angelica said she was, beautiful, sexy and charismatic. I was immediately attracted to her and it was actually quite easy.”

“What was easy?” I spoke with my breath in my mouth.

“Fucking her with Angelica watching.” He stared into my eyes with a mischievous look. “It was probably the most mind-blowing sex I’ve ever had. Angelica sat on my face and I ate her out while Genny was riding my cock. And then they kissed and switched positions. It was great. I had never felt so alive sexually.” He paused. “The problem came when Angelica decided she wasn’t into girls and didn’t want to do it again. But I’d gotten my taste of another pu**y and I didn’t want to go back.” He sighed. “So Genny and I kept seeing each other on the side. I told myself it was only fair, Angelica had done stuff with Mark, so I was entitled to as well. Only one day Angelica came over to surprise me and she walked in on me f**king Genny on the couch.” He closed his eyes. “I would do anything to change that day.”

I swallowed hard as I watched his face contort in pain. Something was taking over him and he looked completely distraught. “She screamed when she saw us. I just stood there and continued to f**k Genny as I stared at her. I was confused and immobile. It was only when Angelica ran out of the door that I realized what was going on and I pulled out of Genny and ran after her. And then I saw it.”

“Saw what?” I stared at him, jaw dropped in anticipation.

“I saw the bus hit her.” He reached over and gripped my hand hard. “She didn’t bother to check traffic. And she just ran across the road and she screamed. She screamed again. That’s the only real memories I have of her now. Those two screams from that day.”

“Oh Harry.” My eyes welled up with tears. No one should have to witness that. “I’m so sorry.”

“It’s okay.” He stared at me and a lone tear ran down his face. “I pray every night that God will give me a second chance and bring her back to life.”

“Oh.”

“Maybe you can help me?”

“Huh?” I looked at him in confusion and his eyes were twinkling. “What?”

“Maybe you can use your powers as a medium and talk to her for me.”

“Uhm…” My voice trailed off in confusion.

“Psych.” He laughed and I stared at him in shock.

“Psych what, Harry?” I stared at him with squinted eyes feeling very, very angry.

He looked at me in dismay and bit his lip. “I think I may have crossed a line. I’m so sorry, Sarah. I was just joking.”

“Joking about which part?” I glared at him.

“All of it.” He paused. “Well from the high school party bit and catching Angelica having anal sex.”

“What the f**k?” I jumped up and screamed at him loudly. “That’s not f**king funny.”

“I’m sorry.” He sighed. “I wanted to see how far I could take the story and have you still believe me. And then I got carried away.”

“So there is no Genny, no threesome?” I glared. “No getting hit by a bus.”

“There is no Genny and no one got hit by a bus. Though there have been plenty of threesomes.” He wiggled his eyes at me.

“This isn’t funny, Harry. So where is Angelica?”

He sighed. “She’s married with three kids. We broke up after high school because she cheated on me.” He paused. “Normal sex though. And we were in love and I was devastated and we haven’t talked in years.”

“You told me you went to her grave, Harry.”

“I know it was a bad joke.” His eyes looked pained. “I’m sorry, I figured if anyone would appreciate a bad joke, it would be you.”

“You’re an ass**le.” I felt my body heaving with anger but a part of me was actually feeling a lot lighter. If what he had said had been true, it would have been a lot harder to reach his heart. That would have been an almost insurmountable amount of baggage to get through. “I’m not talking to you for the rest of the week.”
